About me

I’m passionate about both drawing and painting, and about the incredible natural beauty of the Canadian wild. After a fulfilling 25-year career as a veterinarian, I began my journey into full-time art in 2022.

For decades I’ve been lucky to explore wild places across Canada — hiking, backpacking, backcountry skiing, and biking. Living in Edmonton, Alberta, I’m surrounded by places that constantly inspire me. Many of my trips include wildlife tracking and sketching in the field, and my paintings grow directly from these experiences — the moments that take my breath away, the stillness, the movement, the connection. I also enjoy nature photography and am working to grow my photography skills. I usually work from my own reference photos to keep my vision fresh.

I paint to share what I feel out there — the joy, awe, and deep gratitude that come from being immersed in nature. I hope my work reminds others to slow down, to appreciate what we have, and to recognize the value of protecting these extraordinary places and the wild creatures that call them home.

My sketchbook is always in my pack, ready for whatever presents itself. I love painting en plein air — it’s challenging, but it keeps me learning, observing, and staying connected to the land I love. I’m endlessly grateful to live in Canada, surrounded by wilderness and wildlife, and to have the freedom to explore and create within it. See more of my photos and travels in my blog Notes from the Field.

Before becoming a full-time artist, I earned my Doctor of Veterinary Medicine (University of Guelph, 1987) and Master of Science (University of Guelph, 1992). As a child, I was fascinated with animals so veterinary medicine was a logical career. However, I was constantly drawing animals and also had dreams of being an artist. One day I promised myself, after a career in science, I would come back to art. In 2021, I took the plunge and returned to art. Since then I’ve been studying with some of Canada’s leading artists through mentorships and workshops, including Mastrius (Calgary), Zhelisko Art, Patti Dyment, Gaye Adams, Doug Swinton, Charlie Easton, Dominic Modlinski, and others.

So far my work has been exhibited at Night of Artists Gallery – Into the Wild Show (2025) and the Fernie Arts Coop – Sources of the River Show (2025-26). I am a supporting member of the Federation of Canadian Artists (FCA) and a member of the Society of Western Canadian Artists (SWCA).

Land Acknowledgement

My paintings are inspired by the majesty of the land I call home, Treaty 6 Territory, the traditional lands of the Cree, Saulteaux, Blackfoot, MƩtis, Dene, and Nakota Sioux peoples. I honour the histories, stories, and stewardship that have shaped this landscape long before me.

I’m endlessly thankful for the wild places that inspire me and for everyone who shares in their beauty through my art. Each painting is both a celebration and a reminder of how deeply connected we are to the natural world.
